WhatsApp Web ~ How to Use WhatsApp on Desktop, PC or Laptop

Share:
WhatsApp for the first time on January 21,2015 launched its Web Version for millions of Whatsapp users, which gives the ability to use on web browser or on a PC or Mac. WhatsApp web client is simply an extension of your phone: the web browser mirrors conversations and messages from your mobile device - this means all of your messages still live on your phone.

How to use WhatsApp Web?

For a richer communication experience, WhatsApp is now accessible both on your phone and your computer. WhatsApp Web is a computer based extension of the WhatsApp account on your phone. The messages you send and receive are fully synced between your phone and your computer, and you can see all messages on both devices. Any action you take on the phone will apply to WhatsApp Web and vice versa. At this time, WhatsApp Web is available only for Android, iPhone 8.1+, Windows Phone 8.0 and 8.1, Nokia S60, Nokia S40 EVO, BlackBerry and BlackBerry 10 smartphones.

WhatsApp Web is not another WhatsApp account. When you use WhatsApp on your computer and your phone, you are simply accessing the same account on these two devices. Which means while accessing WhatsApp account on Web browser, your phone should be active at the same time.

Minimum requirements to enjoy WhatsApp Web on Desktop, Laptop or PC

Before you start using WhatsApp Web Version, you must have an active WhatsApp Account installed on your phone or tablet. If you haven’t done so already, download and install the latest version of WhatsApp from the App Market. See where to download WhatsApp for your devices Here: WhatsApp Free Download ~ Download WhatsApp Free .Sign up and and verify your number in WhatsApp App.

Firts step, lets assume that you already have an active WhatsApp account on your phone.
Second, you need to have a stable internet connection on both your phone and your computer. You need this because, you are simply accessing the same account on these two devices.
Third, you need to use the latest version of Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari or Edge as your web browser on your computer. Please note that older version of browsers may not support the WhatsApp Web version.

How to get started with WhatsApp Web

Step 1. To connect your web browser to the WhatsApp web client, you’ll obviously first need to launch a web browser on your desktop. Most preferably you use Chrome browser, otherwise other browsers may well supported. In your browser, open a tab or new tab, from there you head over or type the WhatsApp Web url http://web.whatsapp.com and hit enter. Once you hit enter, you will see a sreen with a bar code, like the in the image below.

Step 2. Grab your phone, open your WhatsApp Messengger App. You’ll need to open the WhatsApp Web function. Here are the procedures for the various mobile operating systems, starting from the main WhatsApp screen:

On Android: in the Chats screen > Menu > WhatsApp Web.
On Nokia S60 and Windows Phone: go to Menu > WhatsApp Web.
On iPhone: go to Settings > WhatsApp Web.
On BlackBerry: go to Chats > Menu > WhatsApp Web.
On BlackBerry 10: Swipe down from top of the screen > WhatsApp Web.
On Nokia S40: Swipe up from bottom of screen > WhatsApp Web.

Step 3. A QR or barcode reader will then open on your phone; point your camera or phone at your PC screen to read the code. Once read correctly, you will be automatically logged into WhatsApp on the web.

Please note If you checked or clicked on “keep me signed in” option on the login page, you should be able to close and open the web interface for as long as your desktop browser session is active and as long as the mobile app stays active on your phone. If you’re logged out, just repeat the steps above.

How to Use WhatsApp Web?

WhatsApp Web version works more or less the same way that it does on your devices. The main or primary screen shows a list of all the contacts or chats you’re currently engaged in on your phone (or any other devices). To start a new chat, click the text message icon in the left column and either click one of the contact names or start typing in the “Search Contacts” field. Your chat itself will appear on the right side, and you can switch between any of them at any time.

Desktop notifications are supported, which you may want to switch off in the settings menu for privacy reasons if this is a shared PC. As on the phone, tapping the three-dot icon brings up more options. Select Notifications and then deselect Desktop Alerts and Sounds.

Any messages you send will be sent immediately to your contact’s phone, or any other device they happen to be using (including WhatsApp Web on their end). To start a new group chat, click the menu button (three vertical dots) and then “new group chat.” To log out of WhatsApp Web, click the menu button then “log out

WhatsApp Phone connection issues with WhatsApp Web

Phone connection issues and computer connection issues are the two main reasons why you may not be able to send and receive messages on WhatsApp Web.

Your session on WhatsApp Web is an extension of WhatsApp on your phone. WhatsApp Web connects to your phone to sync messages, thus you can see all messages on both devices. The first requirement to being able to use WhatsApp Web is an active WhatsApp account on your smartphone.

If you cannot connect to WhatsApp on your phone to send and receive messages, then you will not be able to use WhatsApp Web. Open WhatsApp on your phone and try to send a message.

Once you are able to send a WhatsApp message from your phone, try using WhatsApp Web again. If you still have issues sending or receiving messages on WhatsApp Web, then there is likely a connection issue on your computer.

Note: To reduce data usage charges on your phone, we recommend connecting your phone to Wi-Fi.

Computer connection issues

Just like using WhatsApp on your phone, you must have a strong and stable Internet connection on your computer to use WhatsApp Web. If you see a yellow bar at the top of the chat list with this error message "Computer Not Connected", check to make sure your computer's Internet connection is active. If your computer Internet connection is working normally and you cannot send or receive a message on WhatsApp Web, first refresh the page.

If the problem persists, you should log out and log back in to reactivate your web session:

Press the  Menu icon.
Select Log out.
Follow the on screen instructions to log back in.
Important: You must use the latest version of Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari or Edge as a web browser to use WhatsApp Web. Other browsers such as Internet Explorer are not supported.

WhatsApp Issues on certain Wi-Fi networks

If you use WhatsApp Web on a managed Wi-Fi network, such as at your office or university campus, your network might be configured to block or limit connections to WhatsApp Web. If WhatsApp Web notified you that you're on a Wi-Fi network that is preventing WhatsApp Web from operating correctly, please ask your network administrator to bypass traffic to web.whatsapp.com and *.whatsapp.net.
